NYAAY, Villa 105
The Wedge on Oleander Lane
If the house cannot look out, the ground it looks at has to become the landscape.
The plot is a corner of IFS Villas, with a three-storey house close on one side. The house answers it with its own mass: a stone-clad wedge that blocks the sightline from the garden and the principal rooms, and gives the corner one legible silhouette.
A blocking mass is only as good as what it offers in exchange for the view it takes. So the garden sits on a raised plane, and long cantilevered overhangs hung from the wedge form the terraces and act as the house’s climate response. Tapering RCC beams form the wedge itself, and a diagonal shear wall under the first-floor balcony corner runs inside to the corner of the dining room.
Inside, one formal drawing room downstairs and one family living above; a ground-floor suite for the grandparents, family bedrooms and living on the first, guest and service on the second with their own terraces, and a spiral service stair and lift threading the full height. The house is named for the child. His bedroom is the smallest of the four.
The plot, before
Photographed on 2 September 2025, before the old house came down. The garden was held by mature trees, and the trees along the lane beyond the boundary stay; the renders keep them where they stand.

The wedge
One legible silhouette on a corner plot, rather than a stack of floors.

The stone, tested
Before the cladding was fixed, the same view was rendered in four other stones, at the same frame and in the same light. White quartzite laid on the slant, in the view at the top of this page, is the stone specified.

As it will stand
Dry-clad white quartzite on the raking plane and its two end fins, with the copings in the same stone. Fair-face concrete for the cantilevered slabs, fascias and soffits, the diagonal wall on the ground floor and the porch; white render on the ground-floor panels; black slim aluminium glazing and frameless glass balustrades. Visualisations from the model.

The architecture package as issued on 18 February 2026. Four floor plans, four elevations, four sections and the house pulled apart, floor by floor. Titleblocks removed; the sheets are otherwise as issued.

“Minimal from outside. The bare stone-clad wedge shields the house, and the long cantilevered overhangs hung from it form the terraces and act as the climate response.”
